Ferry's work is the most political in the (2006 Biennial Juried
Exhibition at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art). Two of his
pieces explore Maine's relationship with Iraq. In one scale
painting, he overlays the outline of Maine on top of the geographic outline of
Iraq, to give perspective about the size of Iraq and its
similarities to Maine.
If one flipped the outline of Maine on it's side, it would come
close to
mirroring the rough shape of Iraq.
In his other painting, "Operation Maine Freedom," Ferry suggests that
Maine is the target of enemy bombings, with Bangor the epicenter of
activity. Bombing routes crisscross the state, with targets
marked by orange flames.
